The thing was, I wanted a small notebook with long battery time. Easy to take along and no real need to have a powerplug available within a hour or two. These specifications pointed out to a netbook.
Netbooks seem nice, but they are not quite powerful; maximum 1 GB memory and an Atom (like) processor. Nor do they tend to have a reasonable good display. I was looking for a notebook in a netbook format.
Along came Acer with the Timeline line. One of them, the 1810TZ,is a 11.6" with 1366x 768, dual core 1.3GHz (CULV SU4100), 2GB memory, no cd player/burner. The latter is fine, I usually don't use the CD-player anyway, it adds weight and consumes power. The processor is not really powerful, but does its job very nicely. The 1810TZ is graphically pretty good as it is supposed to play HD movies.
I found no problem working 6 hours plus with Windows 7, a webbrowser that has at least 4 tabs open, Outlook 2007 and Word. In the background Kaspersky Internet Security 2009 is operational. And, Skyping is no issue either (sound is not bad, build-in webcam works reasonable). Keys are nicely sized. One thing I like a bit less, the HOME and END keys require the FN key to be pressed.
So far I'm quite pleased. I'm almost used to the multi-touch touchpad. It is actually nice once I started to get the hang of it. Acer Timeline 1810TZ power of a notebook in netbook format.
Oh, and before I forget, including tax and shipment by post (2 working days), the Acer Timeline 1810TZ can be obtained in The Netherlands for €430 at http://www.pda-wereld.nl/. Still, take a moment to look at the current prices at http://tweakers.net/pricewatch/247062/acer-aspire-timeline-1810tz-412g16n.html
